ORDINANCE No. _ 1973
AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE PUBLIC PARKS AT NIGHT
Sponsored by: Mayor Charles E. Harden
Whereas, the City has provided public parks for the recreation of the Citizens of
Prichard, and
‘Whereas the City has invested funds in the renovation and maintenance of such parks;
and
Whereas; the City is desirous of preserving the peace and tranquility of residents
living adjacent to such parks and preventing unauthorized use of said parks; and
Whereas, ithe City of Prichard has the right under its police powers to impose certain
restrictions on the use of its public parks;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY :
OF PRICHARD, ALABAMA:
SECTION 1: It shall be unlawful for any person to be upon the grounds of any
public park within the City of Prichard during the hours of darkness (which i is defined
as the period from one hour after sunset until sunrise) unless such person is at the time
a participant or spectator of an activity officially sanctioned by the City.
SECTION 2. Appropriate signs are to be erected in each park informing the
public of the provisions of this section.
SECTION 3. Any person found to be in violation of this ordinance shall be
punished by imprisonment for a period not to exceed 30 days and, or, a fine not to
exceed $500.
SECTION 4: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions hereof are hereby repealed.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon publication as required by
law. :
